Niche Limiting or Niche Massing

This is the 2nd post I made today...be sure to continue to the next one.

I want to begin by saying, this is all in my opinion. I'm one of 5 billion "searchers".

As my intense researching and "stumble-ons" have led me from one site to the next; I discovered the same secret many others already knew. While keeping a "niche marketing website" is a good idea; it can be limiting to you if its not designed with enormous growing room.

Check Your Limitations

When you're looking to buy a house, it's a natural action to visualize the placement of your furniture. Typically, a woman will do this more often than the man. We know women love to move the furniture around, and even replace it to "keep with the times...and the neighbors"

If the layout of the main living area is designed with limitation; she won't be able to move her furniture around. Guess what? You're probably not buying that house. (even if it does have a 30ft workshop in the back yard)

Broaden Your Horizon to Get Your Results

A website should be built with the same design. If you're limiting yourself in a "niche market", you should be thinking, "Who am I targeting to; and what if that person (or society as a whole) changes their lifestyle, business, or way of doing things. Are you willing to take down the wallpaper and start over? You're past visitors may remember when they're looking for one thing, that you "didn't" have it; but it was in your area of expertise.

Niche Marketing is a great idea if you're using it in its most broad spectrum. Physical Fitness by itself is still limited to exercise, equipment, and maybe a few DVDs. The simple name "Live Free with A New You" isn't limiting at all. Can you imagine all the items in this world to include in your site? The list is huge...from hair coloring, to clothing, to nutrition, to gym equipment, to joining an organization or a new church. The site's tag lines and keyword list would be enormous!

Did you notice what I did? I nailed the right target. People dont' exercise just to say, "I exercise." They want to look good. I don't care what geographical location you're in; but "summer" is around the corner for someone. Before you decide to jump in and start building your site; think of what you're really targeting; then use your imagination; and build on that. See it in your head first.

Would Overnight Riches Fill Your Goal?

For many years, I've wanted to be successful in whatever I tried...and I've "tried" many things...for only a little while. It wasn't that long ago, that I was believing "If it doesn't come quick, it's NO GOOD!" The day finally came that I realized what my problem was...impatience...and lack of a whole lot more.

I joined a particular business where the entire program was about Personal Development and Personal Growth. After a short time I decided that company and I weren't quite a match "yet". Did I get rich off of it? No; but I'm about to.

You're probably wondering, "How can you get rich off a company you quit doing business with?"

Here's the answer. When I first bought the product, I was so in awe of the content. Before I could get further in the deep depths of the program, I was stumbling onto websites and books of the same information and moreso. I watched "The Secret". I signed up for newsletters to just about all the sites I could find that showed me how the Universe gives to those who ask.

While I was reading books, watching films and talking to people, I forgot what my sole purpose was for starting the entire business...to make money! Oops! Did my goal change without my realizing it? I had noticed that I didn't need financial success! I needed everything the company and others were showing me. The rest would come.

Once I began writing sales emails to leads I had bought; I realized another bit of news to me. Not only could I write; but I had a gift of creation that I had tried to ignore for 10 years (when I stopped writing). The more I wrote, the more I wanted to write! I decided I didn't want to spend my time marketing that company. I wanted to write...and that was that.

I've since created 2 small e-books - One for Mindset Success, and the other to help new writers become writers for success with blogging and article writing. I had also begun my own Article Writing business. I use my articles to promote other people's businesses; and I love it! It gives me such great variety and fulfillment. It is my PASSION!

The answer to the question...is...NO! I would NOT be where I am today had I immediately started making money with that company; because my goal was not in the right direction! I would still be seeing the money; but I would still not have found ME. Sometimes, your subconscious mind knows your goals better than you. I Wish you much Success!

I’ve visited with many people who’ve had brilliant ideas of great content for a book. These same people, for whatever reason, have never finished, or even started writing their book.

Last month, as I was looking through the many books I’d downloaded, I came across the one book that influenced my decision to write this one. The author had thrown several topics into one book; but I couldn’t make heads or tails of what he was saying.

This poor book was missing important research; the punctuation was horribly placed or missing; words were misspelled; and paragraphs were far out of order. It was comparable to reading driving instructions from Chicago to Los Angeles by taking a highway out of New York City.

With this book, I’ve tried to be specific with as much detail as I could. I sincerely hope you will find the information useful in your own writing techniques.

Website or Blog - Which Creates Quick Results?

With little experience, I set out to create the "great" website I had envisioned to take my business to the top. When I signed up for a hosting plan to include a domain name; I thought, “This is it!” Of course, I didn’t know what all those terms meant; such as bandwidth, FTP, CGI and RSS; just to mention the few.

I realized I was already committed and up to my shins in it. Immediately, I felt like screaming, “RETREAT!”

I proceeded to create a semi-sort of website using the limited site-building tools provided. I used colorful fancy writing; added a couple of pictures; threw in a link or two…and...voila! I was done. I created the tags and submitted it to all the major search engines

I was so proud of how my new website looked; I emailed all my friends and loved ones to go see my new creation.

Were they impressed? Not even a smidgen. I was told it looked like a plug-n-play website that had been thrown together in about an hour. Although true, it was still a slap to the ego.

I started begging some of my "internet geek" friends to help me add a few buttons and bows to the site to make it more enticing. I even gave them the passwords and said, “Here! You do it!” This is the statement I got from every one of my friends.

“It’s too limited to do anything with.” “You can’t do…; you can’t add…; you shouldn’t have…”

A month after submitting my site to the search engines, I searched for my site using many keywords; and then by domain name. No luck. I couldn't understand why the search engines hadn't even crawled my site yet.

Enough! I’d had enough! I hadn't gotten anywhere! I had something great to offer people; but no one cared about looking at my site; and I could have saved some time by not creating additional pages. Visitors I sent to the site usually bailed within 30 seconds of opening the first page.

The more I was listening to the news stories; and reading them on-line, I continued to hear phrases such as “bloggers were saying.."; blogger this...blogger that... I thought, “What's a blogger? What's a blog?”

I began searching; and discovered that blogs were constantly moving and changing sites; and search crawlers loved them.

“Aha! That’s it!” The light bulb just came on. “This was up my alley! I love to write; so, if I start a blog; then I can get noticed too! I can then put in my links to the simple website I had just created.

Then the real fun began. I have never had so much fun in my Internet years! I’m able to put videos, pictures and all kinds of goodies in my blog. I even add those great affiliate links too.

I started joining networks all over the Internet that had a blog. If a particular network was popular, but it didn’t have a blog on its site; I realized the owner of that network didn’t understand the power of the search engines and marketing; so I moved on.

As of now, I continue to post on an estimated 27 different blog-sites. I’m a blog-a-holic! What good has it done for me? I've met many people, made friends, established (branded) my name, and have made money with my articles as well as my affiliate links.

I have a more attractive website now; but it's mainly used to "conduct" the business. It's an add-on marketing site. I'd rather get to know people when their guard is down, such as through my blogging.

I guess that's the answer to the original question. Websites are great for continuing your business relation; but if you don't establish the relationship with your viewers within the first 10 seconds; they'll leave.

Some people "YouTube" to success...I’m going to continue to blog to success! Don't try to stop me...I'm on a blog-roll!

The Universe Gives as Requested

Isn't it amazing how many Christians believe that if you call on the Universe to help you get the things you want, you don't believe in God. That is so far from the truth. Whether people are Christians, Buddhists, Pagans, etc. or non-believers, they are still putting their thoughts and feelings out there to the Universe.

A good way to describe the Universe is also used in every day conversation. How many times have you said, "It's FATE; or "that was luck"; or "I'm so unlucky." Let me clear that up for you. It's not "luck"; it's much more than that. It's a RESULT.

What exactly were you doing and thinking when "whatever" happened? If you're a hard worker; believe in yourself; live like there's no tomorrow; do everything to help others; the Universe will give more care and concern back to you.

On the other hand, if you live every day like there's ALWAYS going to be a tomorrow; not paying attention to others' needs; not worrying about making goals; or even the disbelief in any spirituality, why should the Universe care about giving to you the fruits you don't deserve?

If your thoughts, actions, hopes and dreams are positve, the Universe will pick up those vibes and give you fulfillment.

It's the same way in the opposite manner. If your thoughts and feelings are negative; the Universe won't care. It will give you what it thinks you want.

If wonderful results seem so alienated from you; you can turn it all around. So how can you accomplish this? How do you turn your life's results around to gain the things you want?

You change the way you live, think, and react to circumstances. Do you want to have a healthy relationship with a spouse? Would you like to have a better job? How did you handle the last "crisis"? Did you get all hysterical or did you blow it off as an experience; a lesson to be learned.

"Where there is action, there is RE-action"

The first step before you learn anything. Learn to love yourself! If you don't learn to love you; how can the Universe love you?

Watch for further ways to create a "positive" result from the Universe.

Since we had the recent misfortune (of someone robbing our bank account); we are rebuilding! We are also helping others to build their businesses.

As we all know, there are many new businesses starting each day. As there are those many businesses, there are many entrepreneurs starting each day also.

When a person starts his new adventure along with trying to tackle the Internet, he can quickly become so overwhelmed with all the competition out there. Then, all of a sudden, he may feel he acted too quickly, and pulls a sudden retreat.

If you are just starting out; or you have been going for a while, but having difficulty getting results; see if this will help you. In reality, it’s not so hard to get yourself and your business out there to be seen. The biggest, most important lesson is this:

Just because there are so many ways to introduce your business to the world; it doesn’t mean you need to conquer all of them at once. If you give your attention to only two or three means of advertising, you will keep from becoming the victim of frustration.

If you have someone to help you, then maybe each of you can focus on different ways to advertise your product or business. One of you can be working on lead generation, while the other is sending emails to the leads you are generating. One person can handle classified ads, while the other is website building.

At first, you may need to purchase leads, but be sure to ask around. We have found in our lead purchasing experiences, that there are many deceptive lead-dealers. Remember, if you pay 5 cents for a lead; you may have wasted that 5 cents.

Remember; don’t try to focus on ten different ways to get your company known. You didn’t go from taking your first step, to running in one day; you took one step at a time, and built strength; and then you ran. We’ve got a few resources to help you accomplish some of those tasks.

I've Rebuilt My Stage - Have You?

Hi! I'm Freda Barber Booth! Why am I so excited to be Freda Barber Booth? It means I'm an individual! I'm A One-person show in the Theatre of the Universe!

I have destroyed the old worn-down stage; and have been building a new, powerful stage for "My Show". It is up to me to create my show for great ratings; therefore, I must do all I can to set my stage accordingly.

Once I have placed "God" and "Love" directly above me within reach; only then may I begin to add lights, sound, and other features to my stage.

While making sure to place every feature within reach; I neatly and carefully place a perfectly-sized "self-respect" to my left; a huge "motivation" at my feet; and a sincere "contemplation" to my right.

If any one of these great features are missing or become displaced; I cannot continue with my show; or even add these great items to my wonderful stage: Joy, Warmth, Happiness, Success, Prosperity, or even Wealth!

When each necessary feature is set in its position; I can then turn on the bright colorful lights and crank up the music. Welcome to my show!

Is your Life a Re-make; or an Original Feature?

I’ve noticed more and more “Re-make” movies are being produced. It’s like no one has any fresh ideas of interesting topics or stories to show the hungry world of viewers.

When I watch a movie that was made 50 years ago, I enjoy that movie with those actors. When today’s producers create a “Re-make” of that same movie, they apparently believe we enjoyed the original movie only for the content and NOT the great actors who played in it.

Instead of pushing a remake onto society, those producers should be creating a great original movie with today’s actors who will be remembered as making that film spectacular.

Then as I was thinking about that, I realized it’s the same way outside the movie production house. The overall lifestyle, in this country alone, seems to be running on “yesterday”. There is a great majority of people whose lives are just a remake of NOT the people who came before them; but the lifestyle of yesterday.

Why are those people living off of “yesterday”? That is one of the ugly parts of living in the “comfort zone”. It’s so much simpler to just follow in the footsteps than to jump out and create a whole new world; a new adventure; and a new life.

I decided a long time ago, I wasn’t going to create a “Remake”; and have been adding new adventures to my movie ever since.

With sincere honesty, I can swear that when I stepped out of that comfort zone, my new, original movie was getting battered from those who were much older than me, as well as the friends who were also living a “remake” life. So what?

I don’t produce my own movie to please them. They haven’t paid my bills yet; so their criticism doesn’t count. They can watch me as the star of my “New” movie, and like it or leave it.

How to Train the Sub-conscious Mind to Win

When a person begins thinking about having a business of his own, he will encounter many emotions. Those emotions are caused by two major parts of his and everyone else’s mentality.

Whether or not you were seriously contemplating taking the first step to job independence, you're sub-conscious mind is very serious. It knows the strains you're putting on yourself when you receive a bill you can't pay; sending your child to daycare; or when you’re working during your child’s ballgame.

About 85% of those who seek a “work-at-home” business don't follow up on it. Why? The conscience and sub-conscious mind are fighting each other. The conscience usually thinks of receiving a steady paycheck; or that only the rich get richer; or everything is a scam.

The conscience also needs proof of success before it happens; and it doesn’t like leaving the comfort zone.

While researching your options, you may have seen something interesting; or you came up with your own idea of how to create the lifestyle you were searching for. Your way of thinking at this point will either become the beginning of your new life; or it could become a passing thought.

Your conscience could be screaming, “Don’t jump into the fire!”

Your sub-conscious mind is saying, "You’ve tried working for someone else; and you’re not being paid what you deserve. You’re smart enough to know a change needs to take place; so make the change!”

If you continue to pursue your dream of taking charge of your own career; you have achieved victory over your conscience. If you, instead, decide it’s too risky, your conscience has won; and you may have lost precious time and money.

How do you program your conscience to think like your sub-conscious mind? You need to add a couple of simple activities you've been doing most of your life-reading and listening to inspirational music.

Go to the "Entrepreneur" section at your major book store or public library; and look at all of them. Grab the book that grabs your attention. Those places allow you to sit and read the books; so sit and read them.

If you are serious about making a change; your activities also need to change. A popular activity, that suppresses mental thought, is watching television. If you need to change your thoughts in order to create a better environment, turn the television off.

You can also begin changing your mind-set, by increasing your body’s endorphins. How do you increase endorphins? Walking, exercising and jogging will naturally give you the amount of endorphins to help you stay focused. Once your focus is steady, you will be ready to take your life to the next level.

Do you want to know how people get rich working for themselves? They did these same activities. They focused on their success; and not on someone else's. They also stopped watching the crud on TV; and they did their homework.

The Birthday Bet

The Birthday Bet

As my husband and I were discussing what “interest” item for us can make the most during the slow month of January, I blatantly replied, “The big one!”

Of course, he immediately argued, “Yeah that company can make a person a lot of money; but people don’t believe they will get rich, so they won’t get in. These companies, however, can earn someone an extra 100 bucks in a week or so; which is something people do believe in. I think you’re going to be quite disappointed.

Well, I couldn’t let that one go. I replied, “Do you want to place a bet on that? After all; who wouldn’t want to join the big company where they can earn a lot more in a shorter time?

“Sure!” He rebutted, “I could use a steak dinner and you have to go to a movie with me.”

(I don’t like theatres…they stink like yesterday’s popcorn)

I told him, “You're on! I can enjoy that coat that I’ve had my eye on.” (Faux fur)

Ok. As if that wasn’t enough, he then added, “If I am ahead on my birthday, (27th) you have to stand up with the wait staff at the restaurant and sing to me.”

I guess he forgot my birthday is the 22nd. I told him if I’m ahead, he has to stand in the parking garage of the Bank of America; and sing to me during the lunch rush hour.

He agreed; and I agreed.

It’s on! Wish me luck!

Marketing at the Coffee Shop

Wednesday, Christmas Eve, I wasn't doing a whole lot of working. My holiday started early. (I love my job).. John and I decided we'd go get a Mocha from our favorite coffee house.

As we were sitting there sipping at our coffee, we heard a couple of ladies talking at the next table. As they were comparing their holiday plans, each were remarking of how she wished she could have a few days off at Christmas instead of just the one day.

John and I are always armed with flyers and business cards. This time, however, I got an idea. I had John call me from his phone which he dialed from under the table. When it rang, I answered it; then he hung up; I continued talking as if I was talking to a friend; while I was turning the ringer off so it wouldn't give me away.

This was how my one-sided conversation sort of went...

"Hello?

Oh, hi! Yes I did call you. I was wondering if you were going to take your skis or if you're just going to rent them when we get up there? Oh, ok...

No, we don't want the hassle. We're taking ours. Well even though you guys are planning to stay only 12 days, I reserved the cabin for 15 days so John and I can have a little time alone after you guys leave. (giggle, giggle)

Oh, I know... Oh, Joanne, can I call you back? This is important."

Then I switch the phone over to an imaginary call waiting person.

"Merry Christmas, this is Freda. How can I help you?

Yes, I have that ad in the paper. Who am I speaking to?

Well, Lisa, let me ask you a couple of questions. What do you do for a living right now?

Well, how's that going for you?

Oh ok. Well, I can understand why you called then...it sounds like you're being held prisoner in your job. Well, what we do is just talk to people like you and see if what you're looking for and what we're looking for is a match.

We're looking for people who want to make no less than 6 digits in the next 6-12 months working about 20hrs a week from their home or anywhere; and frankly we go through a lot of people, cuz most don't believe its possible.

So, Lisa, when you were considering working from home, did you decide how much you want to earn with your new business?

Well, Lisa. We really need some serious-minded people who have a real desire to make some serious income. After all, we would be spending our valuable time coaching you; and helping you to succeed. I'm sorry, but your answer really doesn't qualify for my time. Apparently, you haven't thought it through and just aren't ready.

No, I'm sorry, I don't keep phone numbers. I suggest you hang on to my number, cuz frankly, I don't bother people. Only you will know when you're ready to make a change.

Ok, Lisa and you have a Merry Christmas!"

I hang up.

I had noticed the ladies at the next table were very quiet during my phone call...so I knew they were listening. I was right.

About that time, I asked John if he was ready to go...that we needed to get going so we can leave for Durango on time. He said, "Sure! I hope you're driving! I'm going to be taking pictures and putting them on the laptop."

About that time, one of the 2 ladies interrupted us to ask if they could have one of our flyers. I gave them each one and said, "If we can help, give us a call. We've got to go or we'll be late. Merry Christmas." and we rushed out.

Why? We wanted them to have a cooling off stage; and we don't sell, tell or explain our company. We have people who do that for us. If we would have stuck around, they probably could have come up with 20 questions...and our time is valuable.

Just another marketing approach. What I said on the imaginary marketing call is exactly the way I handle all of our calls. The facts of the business is exactly the way our business works; however, we don't ski anymore.

Your New Year's Resolution

Happy Holidays from John and Freda.

Well, it’s that wonderful time of the year again. You know; it’s the day you get to make your New Year’s Resolution. I have only one real question.

Did you reach the goals you made for this year? It seems that people, unless they are already wealthy, usually pinpoint their goals to “get out of debt” or “make money” or “get a better job.”

We know that feeling very well. It seems another year goes by and… well, you can guess the outcome. You may have even lived through it yourself. This coming year, however, seems different than previous years.

We’re going to have a new President; the stock market is struggling; and Congress keeps bailing every company out that ran up their own debt themselves.

You have probably wondered how all this was going to affect you and your job, or the cost of your day to day expenses; or you tried to ignore it since it all seemed too depressing to think about. We, on the other hand, look at it in a different way…and you’re probably going to think we’re nuts about that way.

Most of the people of this country have depended on the government or a job for their means of income. We are seeing a totally opposite trend here. In the last year, the number of families who started earning their paychecks from their homes doubled over the last decade.

Why? These people realized they weren’t getting any younger and that they could no longer live their dreams if they were busy fretting the day they had to rely on a retirement income of less than their bill payments.

Then there are those families who have steady jobs, money stashed away in the bank, and were living the regular day-to-day family life. There was only one problem. While they were busy climbing the corporate ladder, their children were being shipped off to daycare and playing sports while one or both parents were working at their jobs.

As John and I have gone through our daily tasks of speaking to people who want to work at home, these are some of the responses we get from those who don’t change the way they do things:

· I don’t want to work that hard
· It costs too much money
· I don’t have time to do that and work too
· If it’s too good to be true, then it probably is

We usually have only one answer. “You’re right.”

Why do we agree with them? We agree because we remember when we were making excuses also. There was absolutely no changing our minds. We saw two feet in front of us. That’s it. We couldn’t see a future that we helped change. We didn’t believe in anything.

All we knew, was how to create another “excuse”.

Here’s a statement. Read it closely. It came from a man you probably never heard of before. His name was Wallace Wattles. If “what you believe” isn’t working, why not try something “you don’t believe”.

It’s been a grand party. People of all walks of life are there, shaking your hand and congratulating you on your great accomplishment. You are about to receive the highest achievement award and are sitting, no, dancing on top of the world!

You begin to walk toward the podium about to pour out your gratitude to all the people who have helped you along the way, when you realize that there are so many in the audience who are total strangers to you. You have been so talented in giving one-on-one demonstrations; you forgot to learn how to speak in front of an audience.

Your legs suddenly lock up and you feel the blood rush out of your face. Instantly, you start swaying back and forth; the meal you just enjoyed seems to be ready to take a U-turn. About that time, the stage-hand brings you a glass of cold water and a cool washcloth.

At the moment he hands it to you, he whispers in your ear, “There’s nothing to be afraid of. They would rather see you be up here than themselves. So, take a deep breath and let it out slowly. Show these people you’re bigger than they are.”

At that moment, you caught that little wink he tossed at you, and realized it really wasn’t that bad. You just imagined it to be, because you were taking another step into the unknown. Then you return to the microphone, and begin with, “My wife warned me about all that spicy food, but it sure was good.”

You then continued with the very powerful speech you had spent many hours writing. As you began with the words of how you got started in the business, you realized that those people who made you nervous in the first place, were soaking in every word you said. They were looking to you as a child to his teacher. You were being a true leader.

When you finished your speech, you were given a grand ovation. It made you feel the accomplishments you made were so well deserved by you, for you. If it could have been physically possible, you would have given yourself the biggest bear-hug known to man.

As you were leaving the stage, many people were standing there, patting you on the back and sharing with you the impact of your speech. Fighting the crowd, you make your way to your wife and get the biggest hug and kiss any man could only hunger for.

Later, as you are still mingling with the few remaining guests, one of your colleagues, who you admire very much for his outstanding achievements, asked you a question you weren’t quite ready for.

“You’ve made a goal that only few have achieved in this area. What is your next move?”

I Don't Care if you don't join my business or buy my product.

Wow! How many times have you said that in one day? If you're a powerful marketer, you may have said or thought it at least twice.

If you're a newbie, I bet the thought didn't even cross your mind.

I'm so amazed at the desperate attempts some "salespeople" go through.Phone call after phone call, it seems to get worse. If they call first thing in the mornings, it's not as bad.

They believe they will get their sale or their daily quota so they will be a little easier on that "no" coming right at them; but Lord help you if they call around dinner time and they aren't anywhere near that quota.

After all, that quota can be the difference in whether they get to keep their job.I worked as a telemarketer for one whole day. That, in itself, was the worst workday I ever had. I had to make appointments for an insurance salesman to retired people.

He sold Supplemental insurance to people on Medicare. Ok. So I didn't have to sell anything, or so I thought. I was around 24 years old, and pretty green when it came to people skills.

They sat me down next to a phone, with a script glued to the table; and told me to read it a couple of times and start making calls. So I did.

There were more pressurized rebuttles on that page than in a courtroom. 8 hours later, I still had no appointments made. The secretary handed me a check for about $35 and said, "Thank you, but we need someone who can do the job." Wow! Fired after 8 hours!

Now, I'm sure if you're a seasoned marketer, you will have already realized that the first thing they should have told me was a really hilarious joke so I could choke out the nervousness. Then they needed to ditch that awful script.

There was absolutely no personal approach to any of it. That insurance could have helped some of those people.Then I figured it all out. The Insurance Salesman who had hired me didn't care about any of those people. He only cared about his commission.

I'm not sure what happened to his business in the last 20 years, but I know that within the next couple of months, he moved it to a much-lower priced building in a not-so-safe neighborhood.

Of course, twenty years later, we have many more options of how we can target our market, and with all the educational tools, I would have thought it would be better. Of course, I was wrong on that assumption.

I get hounded more now because of all the extra ways of communication and from a more expanded market.The calls were bad enough when some depressed soul on the other end was trying to sell me something.

Now it's a computer calling me...like I would tell them, "yes"?It just goes back to what I was saying. If you don't care about the person you are selling to and if you feel you need to pressure someone or throw it in their face, I certainly hope you have found a way to say, "I don't care if you don't join my business or buy my product.

Are You Playing With a Dead Hand?

John and I, along with our friends, Jim and Janice, were invited to eat dinner and play cards at the Simpson's house one evening last July. As it turned out, it was an absolutely beautiful evening, so David Simpson decided to bring the table out to the patio so we could enjoy our meal and card game in the summer sunset.

Now, I assumed that meant they were going to bring out a folding table. Um, no. David meant the dining room table.

Imagine this... those three guys came up with 7 different ideas of how to accomplish that. While they were pushing, pulling and turning the table every which way.....

David's wife, Sharon shouted, “I just came up with a brilliant idea!”

Everyone stopped and looked at Sharon. Curiously, David asked her, “ Ok, what's your idea?”

“Get the video camera! This is gonna be good!” She yelled. You gotta know Sharon.

The guys did manage to get that big oval table onto the patio by an almost obvious way...on its side.

Of course, David had a bruise the size of a golf ball on his shin, John managed to get his middle finger smashed in the doorway, and Jim dropped the table on his big toe; but all in all, they were all happy about getting that big table through the door...until Sharon popped the big question.

“Are you guys gonna get it back in the house the same way?” She asked so innocently.

Well, anyway... After dinner, we cleared the table. Janice and I helped Sharon clean up the kitchen while the guys sat around the table visiting and nursing their little bumps and bruises.

As we finished up, we strolled outside and filled everyone's drinks. I noticed they were in a really great discussion as I sat down. Jim was holding the deck of cards in his hands, kind of shuffling them as he talked.

He started. “These cards remind me of something I was told when I was about 25 years old by my grandpa. It totally changed the direction I was taking in my life.

Now, my grandpa was a very wealthy entrepreneur; not only wealthy in money, but in his life. He was happy all the time...oh, there were moments when things weren't all peachy, but he would shrug it off and say, “Tomorrow is a fresh day.” and that was that.”

Here's what he told me.”

“Jimmy, if you've ever played a card game, either against other opponents or just a game of solitaire where you're only playing against the deck, your ultimate goal is to win, right?
I said, “Of course!”

Well, if you're playing poker, you're betting that your hand will beat everyone else's hand. It's up to you to decide to hang on to the hand you're dealt; or you can fold it and wait until the next round.

Of course, there's always the option of trying to bluff everyone into folding..sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't... I make a terrible bluffer, so I just don't.

It doesn't matter what card game you're playing. If the cards don't fall as you want them to, you either finish the game anyway just to get a score; or you re-shuffle and play again.

Our lives are the same way. We're all dealt a hand to play with. When you were young, you didn't have much choice about the way things went.

When you grew up, though, the “family game” turned into a game of solitaire. You had to decide what YOU were going to do with the rest of YOUR life. That is when you were given the ability to fold the childhood hand and demand a re-deal; and you were able to choose the game!

So, Jimmy, did you fold the entire hand; or did you decide to keep the ones that you were comfortable with and toss the others?

Well, I really didn't quite know how to answer that, so I just kinda shrugged.

Grandpa continued, “Most people decide to replace a couple of cards, but they don't know what they're getting because the deck is faced down. Then they believe they have to play the entire hand “as is” and try to make the best of it.

Then, he gave me that look. Jimmy, it's YOUR game now! You can turn that “draw” deck over! Pick it up! Go through it and pick out your winning hand! You're not limited to the number of cards you take.

You can choose the best of 5, or you can choose all of them...even the wild cards! I just can't imagine why anyone would choose to play a “chance” hand that keeps them a slave to themselves, to their jobs and to their worries, when they could choose to turn the deck over and pick the hand they want to play.

And they call, what I do, owning my own business a “Risk!”

Then he asked me one more question and told me not to answer him but to ponder it.

"Jimmy, are you going to take your chances just to get a score; or are you going for the WIN?”

Jim continued...”Well as you can see, I chose to win. I married a great gal. We have a beautiful family, a beautiful home and a wonderful life! And we've never had to punch a time-clock since the day we were married.

Janice smiled and gave him a kiss, then with a wink, said, “Let's play cards...Jimmy!”

That evening stuck with us so much, that I have continued to tell it over and over. Why? Well, that was the turning point in our lives too...except we were quite a bit older than Jim was when his grandfather told him that.

John and I decided that we needed to turn the deck over and pick out our cards. So here we are...and we're going for the win. We found a great business that deals exactly with that... Now we work about 3-4 hours a day, 3-4 days a week.

We can do this business from the beach or our home office.

We now know what “True Freedom” means. You see, we didn't have a lot of money to start up a business; but we also knew our jobs weren't secure; and we could never get ahead.

We didn't have a whole lot of time to waste. John's 49 and I'm 44; and we decided we weren't going to wait 20 years just to panic.

Parents Can Affect Your Way of Thinking

Think back a minute. Can you remember who was the most influential person in your life as a child? The person that made you state, “I want to be just like them!” Was it someone in your family?

Maybe it was a special teacher, or someone famous...sorry, but even though cartoon characters and Super-heroes were somewhat influential, they don't qualify for this.

We're going to call your influential person Mr. Powers. Mr. Powers was just living his own life through his regular every-day activities as a businessman, teacher, preacher or even a famous actor.

For whatever reason, though, he was also creating an influence on you and maybe even others. That immediately set him into a leadership role whether he knew it or not.

There was something about him, whether he was good, bad, handsome, tough-acting, smart, funny, or powerful to the community; he had some qualification that got your attention.

Was it something he said to you? Was it something you saw him do? What was it that attracted you to him and his life?

While most of us had influential people in our lives, not one of them stood out as much as our own parents. We had to do the things they told us to do; we had to follow certain rules; and we were at their beckoned call 24/7.

We knew that if we were good, we would get good results and if we were bad, we got those results too.

Even after all the disciplinary stuff was over, you still loved them, right? - Your parents may have had quiet problems, but their outward lives were organized.

Your dad brought home the paycheck, and your mom made sure the food was on the table at the right time, and you probably ate at the dinner table together.

The laundry was always done; they helped you with your schoolwork and saw to it to keep you occupied with chores, sports, family outings; or you may have even watched TV
together.

While you were wishing yourself to already be grown up, you were almost certainly imagining yourself to be just like them.

It worked even in the opposite manner. If your parents couldn't get a handle on their lives, you couldn't fix their problems, but you loved them anyway.

If they had really loud problems such as medical conditions, alcohol or drugs, were abusive, always broke, etc. you were going to be influenced by that no matter what.

You could either be influenced to say, “I'll never be that way!” or “I wish I could help them” or maybe you just went about life the best you could just hoping you'd hurry and grow up and get away from them.

There's one more kind of influence all parents put on their children that can actually determine what they will achieve as a young adult; what could influence them for years to come and maybe their entire life. It's the statements made from the parents to their children.

It could be something very positive such as “You can be anything on this earth you want to be!” or “You can do anything on this earth you want to do!”

If your parents were very positive in their statements to you; chances are, you moved out of their house with the idea that you could conquer the world!

If you're parents weren't so positive in their statements such as... “We can't afford that.” or “Your best bet is to just get a job or go to a trade school, because you're not as smart as ...” How about this one, “It's okay if you don't go to school today, after all, I hated school too.”

Chances are you may have left the house a few years too early or too late; or you left home and lived on the street.

The positive statements may have resulted in giving you the feeling of leadership. You may think about something and then do it.

or... The constant negative statements may have resulted in giving you the feeling that you weren't going to amount to anything. You may actually think of ways to get out of a rut, but more than likely believe you can't and can create 50 obstacles.

All of a sudden, it's twenty years later. What you have done with your life up until now could be a direct result of something that happened 20-40 years earlier. If you were one of the fortunate ones that didn't let any childhood negativities influence you, then kudos to you.

You either took the feelings you left home with; and built a great career outside of the job force, or you're climbing the corporate ladder in hopes that it doesn't collapse. You have the best family and are trying to work toward your dreams.

Or, you have done everything in your power, despite all your obstacles, to try to keep your head above water; but no matter what you do, you just can't get ahead. You may have gone through several jobs, several relationships and possibly a divorce or two.

These are exactly the influences I'm talking about. These influences can make you or break you when you do grow up. We usually take that influence into the next chapter of our lives.

So, now what? If you haven't done so by now, then it's time to change the negative into positive. After all, you did grow up, didn't you?

You have the GOD-GIVEN right to be a leader! No man or woman or company has a right to take it away from you.

Look Back from Your Future

Did you know you can look ahead to your future? You may be thinking, “Sure, I can.”

Ok. Let's take this from the start. When you were born, your brain was like an empty free-standing 6-drawer filing cabinet with an “In” box and “Out” box on top.

As you started experiencing daily activities, your brain was automatically taking the immediate thoughts, ideas and activities and moving them to your “In” box. As each minute, hour, and day
progressed, those individual actions were moved to a drawer.

Your brain has and is continually moving files and shuffling them around from one drawer to another. Thoughts and actions from yesterday have been moved from your “in” box to the appropriate file.

If you're trying to remember something from 5 years back, your brain will move those things back to your “out” box so you can retrieve them. Now, of course, you're not going to remember every detail of that event for a reason.

If your brain put every minute of that memory in your “out” box, you would have all the memories of that event plus your current day to think about...you'd end up with total overload.
The brain gives just enough information you need to make your point in a conversation.

If you need more information, then the brain will give you more as long as it believes you have room for it. You can even go after the files in the “Locked Away” section if you are able to clear a big enough path for it. This is usually achieved by hypnosis.

I had a unique experience a few years back. I had told my husband about a conversation I had held with a woman just the evening before. I relayed to him about her telling me of a place that hired people for warehouse work.

A few days later, he was having difficulty finding the building. Well, I had just discovered that I have an ability to put myself back into a situation – almost all the way to what outfit I was wearing. So, anyway, I told him to hold on for a minute...I had to relive the conversation. He kind of chuckled and said, “well, ok.”

So, there I was sitting at the table talking to the woman, going through the conversation, and all of a sudden I said the address out loud to John over the phone. He was amazed, but not as much as I was.

You see, you can do it too. It's what you want to pull out of that filing cabinet. As long as you want it bad enough, and if you were paying attention to the event that was put into the files. I can't remember conversations that didn't get my attention in the first place.

Have you ever been told something, but yet that person told you not to tell anyone? Of course! We all have. This is what I tell them. “You won't have to worry about it because within 5 minutes, I will have forgotten what you are about to tell me.”

Those people who know me well...know for a fact that within that 5 minutes, I will indeed forget what they told me. Why? Because I said I would...I told my brain I would...so I did.

If you don't communicate to your brain, you will never get what you want out of life. You will lose thoughts, you will be completely disorganized even in familiar surroundings.

Your body communicates with you by giving you a tickle to giving you a pain. So learn how to return the messages.

So now you know how the filing cabinet of the brain can benefit you in more ways than you probably imagined. Let's take this one more step. We were talking about those obstacles that can get in the way.

Here is an example of how you can manage huge obstacles. Let's say, you were going about your daily business and suddenly, you start getting notices in the mail from stores about how your checks are bouncing off the wall...but to your knowledge, you haven't written any checks in the last week.

This is one nightmare that happens often. After doing your research, you discover that someone had gone through your checkbook and randomly tore out some checks. What would your normal reaction be to this unfortunate crisis?

Well, you'd probably be so furious, you'd be yelling, screaming, crying, and possibly even throwing something.

I'm truly hoping that by the time you finish reading this, you can understand how to use a different approach to handling a crisis of this magnitude.

First of all, in order to stop the crisis from interfering in all the other aspects of your livelihood, you will need to keep a clear mind. So pay attention here. This is actually going to be hard for me to explain it.

Think back to something that may have happened in your life from at least 3 years back.
Pull it out of the filing cabinet. Was it something major? How did you react then?

Now, when you think about it in the present, can you possibly say it was resolved? Or can you say it wasn't resolvable, but in time, I got over it. Or can you possibly say, “Now, that I think about it, it was kinda funny, but I didn't think so at the time.”

Either way, time has healed all wounds of yesterday. You may have a few remaining scars, but the major stuff is gone. We may even get teary-eyed remembering something from years earlier, but all-in-all, the majority of events were dealt with and we went on with our lives.

Now that you have that to look back to...take it to the future. Look ahead 1 year, 5 years and even 10 years from now. What would you like to see as the outcome?

Would you like to include in your memories of how you were so angry, you knocked a whole in the wall and broke 3 fingers?

Or would you like to be able to say, “Yeah, it happened to me, but I immediately called the bank and informed them of what has happened and did exactly what I needed to do to stop the thief in his tracks.

The results of how you handled that obstacle will be positive and will keep you focused on the things you were trying to accomplish before the crisis.

Handling it differently could have actually caused a delay in your goals, or possibly caused you to miss an opportunity to achieve something big.
